NHS Nottingham City’s Review of Mental Health Services

NHS Nottingham City has published the ‘Mental Health Third Sector Review - Findings and Recommendations’ report: Mental Health Third Sector Review Report Final March 2011 2.pdf and has started the procurement process for mental health third sector services.

On 3 September 2010 an engagement event was held to present the findings and recommendations and to gather thoughts and comments on the proposed model contained within this draft report.

This draft report was available for comment until 24 September 2010. The questions and comments in the document below are those that NHS Nottingham City has received as part of this process. Where possible, responses have been given to the questions raised.

Mental Health Third Sector Review Update - questions and comments

NHS Nottingham City is now considering these comments before publishing a final report. Due to the large volume of queries, NHS Nottingham City has decided to postpone publishing the final report to ensure that we give full consideration to all the points that have been raised.

We will continue to keep you informed via this website.

In addition NHS Nottingham City, NHS Nottinghamshire County, NHS Bassetlaw, Nottingham City and County Councils and other associate commissioners within the East Midlands are working with key clinicians and management within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to ensure that all services commissioned within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are of the highest quality and demonstrate value for money. In order to do this a number of different services within the Trust will be reviewed over the next three years. Once reviews have been completed all outcomes will be subject to consultation, where there is a direct impact on patients or carers.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare

Mental health services are available both in the community and from a specialist provider called Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is one of the country’s leading mental health and learning disability service providers. The Trust was formed in April 2001 from a number of organisations providing mental health and learning disability services to the whole of Nottinghamshire.

These services are provided in a variety of settings, from community psychiatric services through to acute wards as well as low, medium and high secure provision. The Trust manages two medium secure units, Arnold Lodge in Leicester and Wathwood Hospital in Rotherham, as well as the high secure Rampton Hospital near Retford.

The Trust provides services from more than 100 sites, with over 6,000 staff and a revenue income of £278 million for the present year. For more information, please visit the Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust website.

Community mental health

Mental health services are also provided in the community through a primary care team which comprises a range of professionals working to improve the mental health and well-being of adults aged 18 and upwards, in and around Nottingham.

The team has recently received funding as a first wave site for the Department of Health’s ‘Improving Access to Psychological Therapies’ programme which will help provide an even more accessible and comprehensive range of services in the future.
