It's your choice

Giving you choice makes the NHS more patient-centred and empowers you to get the health and social care services you want and need. The NHS is committed to offering choice to patients. Under the NHS constitution you have the right to be involved in decisions about your healthcare.

The NHS is committed to:

  • Informing you about the healthcare services that are available to you, locally and nationally.
  • Offering you easily accessible, reliable, and relevant information to enable you to participate fully in your own healthcare decisions and to support you in making choices. This will include information (where available) on the quality of clinical services.
  • Supporting you in making decisions on your healthcare journey.

Your rights under the NHS Constitution

  • You have the right to choose your GP practice
  • You have the right to express a preference for using a particular doctor
  • You have the right to make choices about your NHS care, and to receive information to support these choices.
